Woodbury, CT Woodbury Ski Area
THE EAST KICKS OFF THE SEASON WITH WOODBURY
Owner Rod Taylor a former Olympic athlete did it again. Opening on Friday November 3rd at 4:00PM the ski area officially opened for the 2006-2007 season. However, some locals did arrive at dawn to get first tracks. This gives Woodbury the title of the first ski area open in the Eastern hemisphere. Over the past few days Woodbury has increased base depths to over 3 feet of snow! " The season is off to a great start" says Rod Taylor. "I do it because I love the sport" says Taylor. The demand for pre-season skiing is high as few ski areas are open this time of year. Woodbury is able to make a lot of snow early due to advances is snowmaking equipment and natural temperature inversions that take place at the area. Many skiers and snow boarders enjoyed the snow on Saturday setting record attendance numbers. When asked about forecasted warmer temperatures Taylor's remarks are "This snow is durable and withstands warmer temperatures". Man made snow is considerably denser then natural snow and given a setup period ( which gives the snow a chance to drain) the surface is able to withstand warm temperatures and even rain. Woodbury strives to be open as soon as conditions permit every year since it gives early season enthusiasts a chance to get back on the snow after a long summer break. Woodbury is excited for the upcoming season as new snow tubing trails have been added which will bring the total up to 8 trails that are dedicated to snow tubing alone! Those looking to check out the action on the mountain can view live skiing at www.woodburyskiarea.com. Snow boarders and skiers can be seen on the rails, spines and benches that have been installed, and moms and dads can be seen taking their kids out for first runs. Come and get some Big Air at Woodbury!! Here is to a great season!
